Gelish by Nail Harmony in Bella's Vampire

I work as a nail tech and hair stylist at Evolve Salon. Our most popular service is the Gelish Manicure for up to 3 weeks of wear and stunning high gloss finish. These are my own real nails, however I am frequently asked if they are fake! I have changed the shape of my nails since these pictures were taken so it is a little strange to see them rather rectangular.

Gelish is my new favorite product. It allows me to use nail polish remover on clients and not lose my finish, and I can keep them longer and stronger for weeks with out the upkeep and commitment of damaging acrylics!

*tsk *tsk such a shame that I have 2 bins of OPI and Essie upstairs collecting dust...

In other news, I am contemplating getting my nose re-pierced. I talked to someone who said if I keep sterling silver or gold jewelry in it that it should not reject the piercing this time round. I do miss it so much... ^_^

Forever and a Day

Well, once again, it has been FAR too long since I have posted any images. I have gotten inundated with being mother, nail tech, hair stylist, movie costume maker, and have neglected my outfit documentation and blogging...which are 2 of my favorite things in the world to do! AH!

I got a new hair cut several months back, it was begun by my own hand but I have had a few other stylist trim and shape it now and then. It has had a few different incarnations since first it began, and here are a few of them ^_^

right after i first cut it...with no clue how to style and too scared to cut off hte 8 to 10 inces that were dead and fried...

starting to experiment with my waving iron. this was my favorite color I had it. its the only shade of blond I have ever liked.

after I went dark for a color class at work. it was jarring to go from the red blond to a medium red brown. got loads of compliments on it though, and eventually I got comfortable with it. I like it now, however I couldnt see it when I first got it done.

got rid of the side bits and took it into a real pixie. The babe was yanking out the strands in chunks anyhow so saved my head the bald spot and her the scolding!

not my favorite incarnation...cut with out recoloring and I decided to try a trend look but it wasnt with in my confidence boundaries to pull it off.

this was most recent, in November. I had yet to take the plunge and cut off the bits that were fried so I opted to tuck it into a french twist and Pompadore the top ^_^

I had it cut to my collar bones since then, and with some tweaking on the ends and a fresh color I will take some more images to share.

Interior Inspiration

Lately in my very few spare moments, I have been day dreaming about my ideal home. We watch a little too much HGTV in this house. ^_^ So, while I am covered in drool, wearing sweatpants, and trying to do laundry, my thoughts wander. I start thinking words like "crown molding", "pickled floors", and "on suite bathroom". Beautiful satisfying words like "under mount sinks", "kitschy taxidermy", and "dumb waiter".

Then I hop about my blogs and steal inspirations. Here are todays:

All in all, I'm not much a fan of this yellow lamp. A bit more chartreuse and I'm more excited. The wall paper is neat, reminds me of a GIGANTIC house I cleaned once. I got to take home about 8 arm loads worth of vintage records the old tennants had left in the attic! Each HUGE bedroom had a different theme, and they all had some fantastic vintage wall paper just like this.

This Blue velvet chase is face melting good. I'd certainly have some more color on the walls and some fur draped here and there, and probably get rid of everything else other than that superb peacock feather pillow.

On especially tasty word rolling around in my mouth lately is BLOND WOOD. Pickled floors and blond wood. Here you also get nail heads and benches...what more could you seriously ever want in a dining area?!? It's out side the box, it's elegant, but it's not archaic. GAH!

I've been looking for a nail polish that will be the perfect shade of light grey for a while now. Everything was either metallic, too sheer, or just plain too dark against my paler than pale skin. FINALLY, I found the perfect one! Pirates of the Caribbean licensed OPI to make a set for the premier in May. I picked up Skull & Glossbones and its PERFECTION! It lasts forever, and it's light enough that when I do get a small chip, it's not noticeable.

My outfit was inspired by all the lovely caftan images I have been finding online as of late. I wanted to feel light and airy in the bright hot heat!

this is a new belt pouch for my husband for Renne Faire. Thus far we have gone thrice, and thrice he has not had a costume. We are working on that slowly but surely! I aim to sew him up a wizard robe shortly.
This holds about a cell phone, small wad o cash, and id/credit cards. perhaps a small camera. i think it will look better with some age ^_^

beautiful brushed aluminum look, loved it however even with Chip Skip it only lasted 2 days. mind you, I am a stay at home mommy and my hands stay wet most of the day between dishes and cloth diapering and cooking and what not ^_^

My new wedding/relationship tattoo with my husband, Jason. The idea started out as a simple spiral no bigger than a silver dollar, and ended up being this huge thing!! ha ha, I'm totally in love with it. the tattoo artist was very gentle and worked with me on positioning in a thoughtful way. It ended up being 3 hours, and I still have probably 2 more to go. Jason had to reschedule his to a later date, his will be on his foot...and probably not as big!

I'm sure you can imagine the symbolism pretty easily, the growing relationship. Ever changing and spiraling up or down, depending on how determined we are to make it work. It has been a thrilling and epic ride, and when I look at him I see my Buddy...my comedian who makes me laugh til tears come out of my eyes STILL. ^_^ The provider who makes sure all my needs are met, and I want for nothing. My Gemini twins, sometimes gentle and sometimes withdrawn, the parts of him that are maddening ever weaving in and out of the periods of utter joy and contentment. He makes me stronger and better, tempers my thin skin into something less fragile. Tests and pushes me....supports and needs me. He's my frustrating muse. I love you, Honey. You've provided us with a beautiful life. <3

I had a totally laid back and easy birthday, and it was just perfect. ^_^

I treated myself to these these lovelies that were on super sale at a steal price of $5...fine Italian vintage leather shoes....DYING to try them with some flare pants I am working on refitting. Check out Honey Comb Bridal on Etsy!

I got a Kohl's gift card also, and so I decided that Runa and I would make that trek today and see what we could see. I usually have success with their clearance shoe section. I scored these Vera Wang wedges over Christmas one year, the last pair in my size!!

While I was looking for me I came across these beauties, which are the shorter version of a shoe I own. Basically the millionth knock off of the original Chloe Sevigny bootie that SLAUGHTERED the heart of any girl with a lick of taste. My mom had said how much she liked them twice so at a fraction of the original retail tag of over $70, I couldn't resist picking them up for her at $14.99

Found these for myself, and (this goes for all the shoe shots) I think they are more attractive shoes in person. Also $14.99 marked down from over $70. ^_^ Saved over $120 by shopping the sale with a gift card!! Yay for thrifty spending!!

I also bought myself a new glass sculpture, and am currently hunting the proper plants to go in it. ^_^ I picked up hair color for 5 different people today!! Feel so excited to be partially back to life as usual. Lots of stuff going on in our busy little life.

Tomorrow my husband and I are going to get matching nautilus shell tattoos. I have a plan for the matching one later...when I have more money and a solid drawing/ideas. That's at 1 pm tomorrow with Visual Addiction in Carlisle, PA.

Well, it's been ages since I've posted, but in that time, I have had my baby and am learning to be a full time mommy! Fashion and product blogging must take a back seat.

Runa Eden was born on March 26, 2011 at 11:10 a.m.

She weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 21 inches long!

Nails Again...

Prenatal vitamins along with a steady regimen of 3 vitamin E capsules per day have served to not only keep major stretch marks away (due to being 7 months pregnant) but also add to the already healthy growth I always have with my nails and hair.

It's usually about 3 days before I have the tell tale moon of regrowth, so this time around I went for clear top coat polish. Simple, elegant, and most men will agree, they prefer ladies in clear polish.

Here she is! Just about 32 weeks now, and I sure got a belly full of baby. 10 more weeks and sweet baby Runa will be here!

I wanted to apologize for the lack of out fit posts...being this pregnant hasnt left me feeling up to tweezing my brows let alone trying to look cute and have the energy to document it. Right now all I want to maintain is comfort, so I have been sporting a lot of big sweaters, maxi dresses, and combat boots. I can't wait til it's warm again!

If you know me, in person I am usually fiddling with either my nails, or my hair. Part of it, is what is left of a nervous habit, and part is due to my Virgo Moon and that my Venus is in Cancer.

I had a wicked nail biting habit when I was young, but after many years I have learned to leave it behind! So now I work hard to keep them healthy and cuticle free, and if I can help it with a protective, often colorful shade of nail polish.

I work with my hands a lot, so I do tend to change it up alot. If it's not shampooing a client it's the endless dishes in my sink or the dry winter weather or the oils I am rubbing into my big baby belly ^_^ I just can't keep the polish on for more than a week!

This beautiful shade of grey is Moon Over Mumbai by OPI. This set of images was from last June (2010) right before we found out we are having a Runa! I love this color because it seems to make the nail beds look nice and long, and it has the slightest amount of shimmer to it. I found that while it is a shade of gray, it makes nails look healthier than when they are plain.

Usually I am much better at staying in the lines..ha ha.

I am working on a huge Etsy store update!

A few years back I was working with a partner who created jewelry. We had a very small business called Kill Betty, Inc. which focused on handmade art for a slightly more adventurous type of girl.

The business didn't ever really get off the ground, but I kept the files for these cards. Then after a total nesting frenzy the other night, I decided to dig them up, print them out, and use them to make all my rad vintage earrings sparkle and shine their way into new homes ^_^

Besides these, I am going to be listing some vintage clothing items, hand made snood/eternity scarves, house hold rags in pretty colors, and anything else I can make with my hands. I was also thinking on offering the earring cards as supplies on Etsy as well. I feel the need to draw up a few new ones too...!

I'll have to upload a few more from the ol' KBI days soon too ^_^ Lots of edgy pin up girls and wild colored hair.

China Glaze: Recycle

I wanted to find a cool gray nail polish that still retained that muddy look.

I found China Glaze Recycle.

I have used several muddy tones of polish, like Essie Chinchilly and OPI You Don't Know Jaque. I found this shade of China Glaze to be basically the same as Chinchilly with the slightest difference being that Chinchilly is a bit more brown.

Because of my pale complexion, I was hoping to find a little lighter of a gray, but so far...the search continues.

Ear Cuffs

I originally found this blog via another fashion blog. Style Hurricane is by far one of my favorite reads. You can purchase her OAK earr cuffs here.

I got one in a bright blue and one in purple. The blue feathers are my favorite color however i like the length of the purple feathers better. Currently I am coveting the blue rooster, black rooster, and black rooster with crosses. ^_^ I may end up selling the ones I have now because I have to wear my glasses all the time and the two don't seem to sit together well on my ear.

Once I have the baby I won't be nearly as blind as I am now, so I will be able to get away with not wearing my glasses 24/7.

I highly recommend this seller and blog! She's young and inspiring and beautiful too ^_^

Baby Update!

We are on the third day of the 28th's week. In four days I will begin my 7th month of being pregnant. Runa is very active and makes me laugh at her amazing baby bouncing and kicking and dancing ^_^ Sometimes she makes such steady drum beats in my belly it is amazing, and I find myself with tears in my eyes at the sheer magic of it. I can press gently and feel knees and elbows and her back and head...

Definitely beyond what words can truly express!

The Ombre Dilema

The first time I tried, I failed. My ends required a lifting to get the vibrant candy color I was so in search of.

Dark Red Violet...not the bright Magenta Violet I was craving...

I lifted with CHI bleach, and deposited 2 Framesi Pure Pink Pigment parts with 1 Pure Violet Framesi Pegment to 10 V delevoper.

The scarf I hand made as something to give as a gift and ended up using it myself on Christmas day..ha ha. They seem to be a big hit with those I was able to make these short eternity scarves for. I already have an order for a custom made one!

I really need to start photographing everything before I give it away!!

Tribute to a Fading Season

So this was a late October make up look I did to try to relive spring again...ha ha.

My lips have been peeling quite a bit, and while I believe this may be another of those fantastic pregnancy side effects, it is annoying and leaves my lips looking a bit horrible. In order to combat this I used a Benefit pencil from their "cupids bow" kit, no longer being produced. I used the side that is meant to highlight the heart shape in the top of the lip, however i used it all over and then applied a clear gloss to the top. It evened out the irritated look of the tender spots on my mouth and actually did a lot to plump up my pout!

On the eyes I used a combination of items, including True Gold eye shadow by Bare Minerals, a Bourjois bright spring green shade, and a Rimmel Teal for the middle part.

Also, here is the baby bump!! Now at 22 weeks, we are heading into the second half of the pregnancy with much more energy and a heck of a lot more work ahead of us!! We found out last Wednesday we are having a little girl and she is BEAUTIFUL!! Not to toot my own horn, but she looks so much like me! Her little face and bone structure is undeniably from my side of the family. I just lay and watch my belly ripple for hours in the evening, trying to figure out where her teeny body is depending on the shape my tummy makes...she moves all over in there!

The technician told us that my placenta attatched to the back of the uterus, which is why we have been seeing and feeling things for such a long time compared to some other mothers. She said I have really good fluid in my uterus, and was able to get really good images of our girl because of that!

Runa Eden is such an active little girl, I know we will have our hands full!!!

Lots of stuff under a hundred dollars and what is over that range is gorgeous vintage fur or things of that nature. Don't get me wrong, I adore Spanish Moss and sites like it, but this new discovery makes me feel like I can afford to have other people pick out superb vintage pieces for me and still have money to go check out a few thrift stores on my own!

A Girly Day

I spent a lovely day in Harrisburg with Hope and Kelly. I adore these types of outings, and they are a rare gift these days with always being so tired from my baby growing!

We decided to have lunch at Miyako's, all of us getting rightly STUFFED for such an awesome price. MMM, sushi...I wish my baby didnt love you so much. Then I wouldn't be in danger of over doing it!!

Fashionable ladies, looking smart and meandering on 2nd street with our hot coffees in hand...^_^ It is the simple pleasures in life that make it grand.

We made one more stop at a little store which wasn't exactly a vintage or antique shop...maybe more of a junk shop with random treasures and REALLY good prices. ^_^ There's a $40 chair there I am coveting with a lion's passion!!

Then it was off to Kelly's sweet little apartment for a clothing exchange of epic proportions!!

This military jacket can also be worn closed as a dress! I am truly loving the new spring looks many designers are creating. Being that spring will bring my new son or daughter into this world, the more comfy the clothing at that time in my life, the better! A lot of designers are creating looks using jersey and sweat shirt materials. I've recently noticed a lot of things on etsy and ebay from DIYers that exhibit hooded sweat shirt dresses and similar pieces.

Another S/S 2011 theme is the use of layers of sheers in light neutral colors. As I am getting older, the goth punk and edgy interests I once did to the extreme are softening. I am currently completely in love with the Maxi dress/cropped jacket look. I am looking to find the perfect cropped (and reasonably priced) jacket at my local thrift store, and I'm willing to sacrifice perfect fit because I finally found a great seamstress who works for pretty cheap!!

I was lucky enough to be able to make a trade with my favorite vintage clothing store; my vintage surplus for a few of their season perfect fall vintage pieces and store credit!!

My platform shoes are real carved wood and also were purchased at Miss Ruth's! This place is vintage GOLD in the middle of a teeny town. Sometimes I really can't believe my luck!! Their completely reasonable prices and amazing sales rack is always offering new additions to your 'must have for the season' wardrobe. Sometimes you have to give them some extended love, I had these shoes over hauled at a local cobbler but it ensures the shoes last another 30 years, and maybe more! I like to get vintage maxi skirts from there as well and shorten them from awkward shapes to a line stunners!

So, I stumbled upon this recipe and wanted to try it out! This lady usually posts fashion blog type stuff, but this time it was an inspirational baking post!

Apricot Calfoutis

I made my own and it was delicious! As an experiment, next time i am going to go a little lighter on the lemon zest (that's what I get for not measuring...ha ha, and use peaches for a less tangy taste. Not everyone likes apricots, and my baby seems to demand I eat as many peaches as I can possibly buy at every road side fruit stand this summer...ha ha As a prego, I have noticed I am becoming a bit more of a home maker and this marks the first occasion I have taken it upon myself to bake something!

I also noticed the recipe has a lot of extra egg batter so I cooked that up too and it's delicious with a little cinnamon and sugar on top! I think another mistake I made was using butter made with olive oil...it seemed to make the dish a bit too oily...so just real butter next time!

My dad and husband both liked it though, and honestly, those are the men folk I aim to please in my life ^_^ I can't wait ti dive into a peach version of this!

So I make these rags. My Nana loves them so they must be good! ha ha
I got this fiber from my friend Amber, an avid knitter, and I found that they work so much better at absorbing water and removing the food from dishes than the regular store bought stuff you'd find in Walmart.

I ran out of some of my more fun colors so I got a re-up and I'm so excited!!!!

I think I might try to sell these on etsy. I have seen some of the others selling on there and they are way better than mine, but meh... I also use these and really they eventually become stained and stuff so how they look isn't really the important part. I'm so excited about that bright blue!!!

There is a trend for "boyfriend jeans" and I was quite unsure of how well I could pull it off. I have a long torso and I havent been impressed with items with a dropped crotch...they just make my torso look longer. However, I had these jeans in a drawer for my days off...of which I rarely am, and they were hand distressed and sharpie marker canvased by me when I found them at Fairy Godmother's Vintage about 5 years ago. So i decided to give it a try.

The silhouette seemed at first like it might be too disproportionate....but besides maybe less bubble shaped rolls I quite like the look. They aren't too wide and i like how thin they make my ankles look. I am very self conscious of proportions...

Later on in the evening I switched up the shoes with a pair of beige neutral gladiator wedges (much more comfortable) and a chunky brown beaded necklace. This was the bare minimum I could muster because I was chasing dreams again this morning. ^_^

Essie Tart Deco...seemed much more vibrant in person than what picked up on here...

I loved the melon tone in this color and people seemed drawn to it. I have seen oranges one more toes than fingers this season. I have been seeing more and more cool tones on the fingers, like blues and green (which I read somewhere green is the "new black"...?)

I have been aquiring a lot of melon/peach/orange toned items recently. A few of these include:

China Glaze: Peachy Keen (currently on my toes)

OPI: Dusk Over Cairo (purchased specifically for our trip in March ^_^) A dusty pinky peach with a nice pearl finish. Very similar to the sandy dusty air at dusk...beautiful and classic and girly.

Borghese: Tangelo Sherbet A sorbet shade of peachy mango with a tiny bit of pearl to the finish.

Lorac Baked Matte Satin Blush in Plush. This is a great alternative to bronzer for pale chicks. It is very orange to the eye but goes on peachy and warm...very natural, and very sun kissed.

Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss in Max... it smells to me like eating pancakes on the beach in Hawaii.

Peach is high on my colors list right now as are corals (Benefit Coralista, which is the next best thing to Nars Orgasm)

The next several high on my list are Magentas, Navy Blue, Teal, and also many muddy pastels. More reviews to come ^_^ stay tuned!

I work for Miss Ruth's Time Bomb, sometimes as a model, sometimes as a shop girl, sometimes as a photographer, sometimes as a shoot producer and model scout ^_^ I LOVE my job! Being involved with this store fuels my passion for vintage clothing and helps keep me in practice for modeling and producing. I dream of owning my own shop someday, and this gives me my fix to keep persuing my dream.

This is my friend Scot Carr, whom I also hair cut and color ^_^ One of my favorite clients due to his experimental nature and patience with the process of hand cut mohawk scales and hand painted leopard print!

From time to time when I am working at the shop I invite my friends over to shoot some pieces to fill the time and to give Time Bomb some much deserved press, as well as have some fun with our repeat customers.

I realize the nature of this blog is "GIRL TWIN" and not neccessarily guy twin...ha ha, but I love all fashion, and my purpose here is to highlight all of it. This post is a bit of a tangent, but such a fun one, I couldn't resist.

I'm still here. I've recently been very busy with my career, and I'm in love with it all.

Between Ulta and Time Bomb I am now working 6 days a week, roughly 40 hours a week.

I'm the appointed make up artist and hair stylist for my friend Melissa's wedding on the 29th. Exactly one month later I am planning a photo shoot for Time Bomb. I am booking about 6 models for it, and I'm working with my friend Ted again. Life is certainly full of the possibly of creating art for me right now and I feel so excited to be sharing my energy with people.

I have a few shoots set up for fun too. I can expect to be working at least 7 days a week most of next month. ^_^ AND I still need to find time to hang out with all of my family, and keep my house clean....ah!

Spring weather was beautiful this particular Thursday, so I finally decided to try out this tube maxi I'd found on clearance at Old Navy over Christmas.
Also wearing my shell flower necklace from Hawaii which I wore during my wedding ^_^

After one day wearing this dress, I put it in the "exchange" bin and got rid of it at a group clothing exchange. Organizing a clothing exchange is a great way to refresh your wardrobe with out spending any money at all!! This dress was pretty, but I apparently was not blessed with enough boobage to hold it up...so it went to a better home ^_^

You will have to pardon my lacking hair and make up here...ugh. Just experimenting with this re-fad of structured shoulders. I have a few stoles I never wear. They sit in my closet, hidden from playful kitteh toofs, doing nothing but taking up room. Well one of these has a wonderful multi-colored quality to it so I attatched some black and brown leather strings to it so it could be tied up behind the back and give the similar look of large shoulders.

This is what I do for a living. My full time job is partially sales, partially services refining the wiley brows of the women in my area. This was one of my favorite before/afters. No photo shopping besides cropping and pasting them together! I used Benefit Cosmetics for the entire eye look ^_^

Stila Smudge pots are SO fab! I love the colors! I was on my way to do a cut and color at my friend Jill's house and I can't ever show up to a hair cut party with out looking FAB. ^_~ People don't trust a colorist that doesn't look her own personal best.

I'm so happy that my hair is finally growing out ^_^

This is a new painting from a shoot done WAY back in 04 or 05. My artist friend Steve Cleff is having a showing in Philly and this is one of the images to be in the show!!! I'm going to ask him if he would like to make small framed prints for us to hang in the shop at TIme Bomb....so beautiful. I really miss my hair being that long! Today I am reviewing 2 beauty products for you.

C. Booth Volcanic Mud Mask

I love this mask! I can use it as a spot treatment, or all over my face for maximum benefits. Typically I use it on my T-Zone. This mask is really fantastic for shrinking pores. I am 25, and the older I get, I am noticing my pores around the creases of my nose are getting larger as well as producing more oil. This can lead to issues with make up application. The bigger they get the older they can make a person look and feel. Youthful skin at it's peak is almost devoid of pores all together.

The mask starts out dark grey, and as it dries turns light grey. The pores that require drying out will keep the mask dark grey in only those areas. This is good to show you where your problem areas are. The mask wipes away with luke warm water.

The second Product is Essie Nail Polish in Lilacism

This is a beautiful shade for spring, or to brighten up the winter blues. PA winter is unpleasant. I find it to be quite chilly and dry, and I am dying for the first bright green shoots of growth.

This color almost seems to glow for the first few days. The only complaint I have is that it takes about 5 layers to get real full coverage. The color is beautiful and I get compliments on it all day by many different ages of women. Lilac truly reminds me of my childhood...the color, the scent...I had a lilac bush in my back yard when I was a child. It's whimsical and magical. I am also loving Estee Lauder Pleasures because it has the most heavenly scent of lilacs.

Not so Scent-ual

Ok, as i have noted before i work for a giant cosmetics retailer. So Fragrance is always available for testing.

Ed Hardy has become quite a popular, rather irritatingly expensive, label. So I decided to try their "Love and Luck" fragrance. At first it reminded me of Dolce & Gabbana, Light Blue. It's citrus smell is nice....but a las, Ed Hardy is a waste of any of your spending dollars. It really is all very trailor trash.

I have also tried the Hearts & Daggers which just came out. It reminds me of the smell of teenage girls in their cars smoking cigarettes....like the real cars street kids had with a hundred bottles and cans in the bottom. It was good fun, but i have felt the need to move on to more classy things.

The Ed Hardy just stank. It had too many things going on in it. I mean like literally one of everything that a lot of people think smell good. NOT to all be used in tandem.

New Year's Eve 2010

So my tent dress for New Years Eve was begging me for a matching smokey eye. I used Smashbox cream liner, Mary Kay mineral eye shadow, and Mary Kay Mascara.
For my face, in winter I always have an excruciating time with foundation. They do not make a shade called "living dead girl"....ah, but my savior...GOTH WHITE by Manic Panic. I use a fine coat of this under my Mary Kay Medium Coverage foundation in Ivory 100. The Goth White will clog your pores, so it's not to be slept in. The MK over top keeps it looking soft and air brushed. I finish with Smash Box Halo powder in Fair. For oil control in my T-Zone throughout the day I will also sometimes use Pur Minerals Porcelain Mineral Foundation. It matches my skin tone much better than Bare Minerals Fair.
I used Mary Kay lipstick in Shell on my lips to keep it semi nude with out loosing the shape of my mouth. I also used Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Sparkling Cider.
